Reading today: Is a book with video, audio and games still...a book? Hey, I know that we all have short attention spans these days, what with posting on Facebook and Twitter, checking out news sites and watching YouTube. Plain old all-text book may be destined for the dustbin, however, with the advent of the iPad and other slate-types of devices. The folks at Penguin have just introduced an iPad app, described in this Fast Company post by Dan Nosowitz, that combines video, audio, games, photos and more. Penguin doesn't even see these as books, apparently. But will this type of multimedia digital content make books a thing of the past?
Please, can we leave room for our imaginations? I have pictures in my head of the characters in books and the places they inhabit. Soon, these pictures will be replaced by someone else's vision. What do you think?
